Are You Called to Serve?

by: Lottie Valles

I want to start by saying, “I am NOT a college-educated pastor.” “I am NOT a pastor’s wife. I am NOT a teacher or therapist of any kind. I am simply a sinner saved by the Grace of GOD. My number one goal for the rest of my life is to Glorify GOD by sharing HIS Word with you. (Romans 15:18, ) “For I will not venture to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished in me.” (You can read the complete verses if you’d like, Rom. 15:18-21.)

Have you ever thought that you would like to do something to help someone, but because you are “just a woman” or “nobody famous”, you think that you can’t be used? I am here to tell you that satan is lying to you. That thought that you had is most likely GOD speaking to your heart. YOU ARE SOMEBODY! GOD can always use you. HE gave each one of us special talents. HE had a plan for your life before you were born. There are no two people the same and we each have our talents, our DNA, and we each have something we can do for someone else.

In our studies of “WOMEN OF THE BIBLE”, we see how GOD used many women for various reasons. Very important reasons. Our world would not be the same today had it not been for GOD using these women.

ESTHER was used by GOD to eventually save the Jewish people from extinction. GOD said HE would always leave a remnant (Isaiah 10:20-21) HE used Esther for that purpose.

RUTH, a Moabite woman married into a Jewish family when it was not an acceptable thing to do. GOD used this Moabite woman to carry the bloodline of David through whom we received our Savior, Jesus Christ.

ELIZABETH was used by GOD to bring forth a son named John, who would be known as John the Baptist. She was a very elderly woman who was a baron but GOD said she would bear a son and she did. John would be the one to introduce Jesus Christ, the Messiah and Savior of the world. Elizabeth was the first to recognize that, even before John was born.

MARY who was just a young girl of about 15 years of age, would be used by GOD to bring Jesus Christ into the world. She was a virgin and remained a virgin throughout her pregnancy. Mary was also a cousin of Elizabeth.

There are many other women in the Bible used by GOD and they all deserve recognition. They are all a testament to the strength and courage of how we, as women, can be used by GOD and HE wants to use you.

For at least 2 years, before my son and daughter-in-law’s accident, I had been asking GOD to give purpose to my life, HIS purpose. Up until Oct. 13, 2023, I had not received an answer. I had no idea how GOD could use me. At this unbearable time in my life, I almost immediately received a message in my heart, that I was to “serve”. I prayed about it, and still not understanding, I took that “Leap of Faith”. I listened to GOD and HE was telling me to start a women’s Bible Study in my home. I said to the Lord, “I have never done that before, I don’t know how. Who would I ask to come? Who would come?” It was just like GOD told me, “You just do it and I will send the people.” True to HIS word, I got calls from women wanting to be a part of my ministry. Right now we have about 10 faithful women who want to serve the Lord. We go wherever HE sends us. GOD used my tragedy, my broken heart so that we could Glorify HIM. HE certainly did not cause the tragedy, but HE gave me purpose for my life when I thought my life had ended. Losing a child at whatever age is unbearable. It’s the heaviest, most painful burden that a parent can go through. GOD wanted me to give my pain and suffering to HIM. HE said, “COME TO ME ALL YOU WHO ARE WEAK AND HEAVY LADEN, AND I WILL GIVE YOU REST. TAKE MY YOKE UPON YOU AND LEARN FROM ME, FOR I AM GENTLE AND HUMBLE IN HEART, AND YOU WILL FIND REST FOR YOUR SOULS. FOR MY YOKE IS EASY AND MY BURDEN IS LIGHT.” (Matt. 11:28 -30.) Don’t get me wrong, it is not easy. I still deeply grieve, but I get so much comfort when I read HIS word and hear HIS promises because I have Faith in HIM and I know HIS words are true. HE promised me that I would see them again.

It will soon be a year since Oct. 13th, and our ministry for GOD has come a long way. However, sometimes I get discouraged and I wonder, “Was it GOD that placed this in my heart, or was I only imagining?” I want to do HIS will. I want to Glorify GOD, but it just seems like nothing is happening. Then from a very unlikely source, someone will ask PRAISE Girls if we could help them with something. GOD said HE would provide, and HE does.

This has emphasized the Scripture to me. BE PATIENT, WAIT UPON THE LORD; BE STRONG, TAKE HEART, AND WAIT ON THE LORD.” (Ps. 27:14) This is HIS ministry and it’s for HIS Glory and HE will use us as HE sees fit. We don’t see the full picture. HE is the Omnipotent one, not us.
